I’ve always been a nerd. As a kid I used to hide under my covers and read till late into the night. In college, I went right from undergrad to a MBA. Six months after my MBA, I started on a Doctorate focused on implementing strategic projects in organization. Later a company paid for a 2nd Masters in Analytics (see, nerd).

I spent 20 years helping Fortune 500 companies implement strategic projects in IT, Operations, Finance, Sales, Supply Chain, Legal, and Customer Service. At my last job, I spent 6 years running a project office for 100 project managers, 500 projects, and 1,000 resources around the globe.

Along the way, I continued my love of reading. It helped me understand the projects we were implementing and the departments that needed them.

After 12 years with my last company, I was struggling to get promoted. I had a broad knowledge, but not the deep expertise the company was looking for to move up. When a 9 month Covid package came along, I took it, planning on finding another Project Director position.

While job hunting looking, I helped a small company as a favor to a friend, which is when I discovered the need with small businesses. In the Fortune 500, every department has a VP with 40 years of experience and a variety of people with 20-30+.

Small businesses just don’t have the same resources so they do the best with what they have. The admin assistant might be taking care of bookkeeping. The bosses granddaughter is trying to figure out marketing. And the Operations Manager is doing their best without experience in Six Sigma, Analytics, Lean manufacturing, or a host of other tools I had always taken for granted. The experience I had gained over the years with a variety of different departments was suddenly an asset, not a liability.

About this time I also stumbled across EOS and loved the structure. Ever since I’ve been helping small business identify and implement opportunities to provide better value to their customers.

From a personal perspective, when I’m not working, I’m spending time with my wife and three boys. No surprise, my hobby is still reading (I go through 75-100 books a year). I’m currently working on a book of my own focused on helping business owners understand the eight core business concepts on our home page.
